Ecosystem Restoration
It is the process of supporting the recovery of an ecosystem that has been damaged, degraded and destroyed.
we create the conditions required for recovery. which help plants, animals, and microorganisms can carry out the process of restoration on their own.
This process is done by simply removing an invasive species or re-establish a lost species or a lost function (like fire) or as complex as adjusting landforms, changing the hydrology, planting vegetation.
According to the UN, All types of ecosystems can be restored, including forests, farmlands, cities, wetlands and oceans.
Recovery initiatives can be started by anyone, from governments, development agencies to businesses, societies and individuals.
That is because the reasons for degradation are numerous and varied, and can influence at different scales.
according to analysis, a forest ecosystem recovered in 42 years.
an ocean bottom takes 10 years to recover.
this time increases up to 56 years when Hit by multiple disturbance.
Reasons for environmental degradation
Land Disturbance
Growth of invasive species like weeds. These weeds can assume control over nature, reducing the regional greenery.
overpopulation
More population leads to more use of natural resources. More people simply mean more requirement of food, shelter, more agricultural land.
landfills
A large amount of waste produced by household, industries, factories.
buried inland. The decaying waste produces weak acidic chemicals which mix with liquids in the waste to produce leachate and landfill gas.
Deforestation
Cutting down of trees for acquired more land for agriculture, Homes, industries and also full fill wood demand.
Deforestation causes soil erosion, global warming.
Natural Causes
Things like avalanches, tidal waves, storms, and wildfires also resulting environmental degradation.
How we can restore the ecosystem and become part of the world environment day.
1.By the process of afforestation. (replanting wetlands, forestland, creek beds, and other habitats.)
2.Removing invasive species.
3.Turfgrass replaced by native species.
4.Establishing rain gardens to absorb rainwater running off roofs of our houses.
5. Report to the government authorities of illegal landfills.
